Late this past winter, talk-show host and writer James Corden listed his estate in Brentwood with a $21.95 million asking price. The property took about two months to sell, but sell it did; Corden accepted an offer of $17 million for the 1997-built house.
The home features contemporary design elements in a traditional-style design, with a mix of cottage features adding the appeal of comforting familiarity, and a bit of dazzle besides for good measure. Tongue-and-groove ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and flat-finished wide-plank hardwood floors are among the details; the primary shared space features a large fireplace flanked by a pair of built-in wood storage bins, a mightily rustic flourish that adds a significant dimension to the whole.
The design style culminates in the master suite. The complex’s bath is perhaps most representative; an unusual design that mixes multi-pane steel door-enclosed sections with transom windows, an antique-style soaking tub, and arched French doors opening breezily to a balcony, the room is part farmhouse, part cottage, and part urbane sophisticate.
Amenities inside the home include a goodly sized screening room. But this is Southern California, and the beautifully landscaped outdoor pool and recreation area, with its mature trees and shrubs, lawns, and red brick accents, and the covered and uncovered patios that overlook it, comprise the .45-acre property’s primary destinations.
