GRONOS Coupé EVO C Is Mansory’s Boldest Creation Yet

German tuning and customization firm Mansory’s latest trick is a Mercedes-Benz G-Class which could be pegged as unabashedly over-the-top or absolutely and unflaggingly tasteful. Depending on your point of view.

Mansory calls the series Gronos, and this particular entry is the Gronos Evo C. ‘C’ indicates ‘Coupe’; the revision loses two of the four native doors in favor of a couple of reverse-hung units (which appear to be larger) and glass side panels that flood the cabin interior with light. Very nice, really. The paint job used for the shoot car is a green fade with yellow accents here and there, which gives the reformulated G-Class a pleasingly coolness that’s far too readily visible for most wallflowers but just the ticket for the driver fishing for recognition on the road.

The roof spoiler and naked carbon hood are Mansory standbys. The former looks very conspicuous, but that apparent vanity stroke up top may help keep this frightful beastie on the road if it’s piloted by a driver insistent on pushing this rocket SUV toward its logical conclusion; you see, Mansory also bumped up the V8’s potency profile to 900 horsepower and over 850 pound-feet of torque at peak. The Gronos Coupe can snap to 60 in 3.3 seconds.

What Mansory is really good at is developing striking, double-take-ready rides that have some potential as investments. With a model like this, they keep production numbers to 10 examples or less. The Gronos Evo C is limited to eight.
