A five-bed, six-bath East Coast getaway residence, presently owned by actor Hugh Jackman, is being offered as a rental for the upcoming summer. However, well-heeled coastal hounds fishing for eccentric shingle-style complexities and their wonderfully diverting interior design red herrings should temper their architectural expectations, as Hamptons a la Jackman is anchored by modernist transparency and simplicity, and contemporary atmospherics.

The compound was apparently custom-constructed for Jackman et al and completed a little over two years ago. If a first glance of the 2020-built residence reminds you of Calvin Klein’s Southampton Modern-style, well, that’s on the money. The two structures are single-level, and drenched in the tones of natural stone and wood. Overall, a Scandinavian-inspired atmosphere appears to be dominant. Jackman told Architectural Digest that he was influenced by the designer’s break with Hamptons traditionalism. Ornament is relegated to natural texture, setting, LED backlighting, and subtle abstract evocations.

The highlight of the shared living space in the main house is the open-concept family room, which incorporates the kitchen and features a step-down living room; a rather monolithic accent wall finished in figured black stone provides a somewhat imposing interior margin. Glass walls and skylights flood the interiors with the landscape.

The estate is, in keeping with high-profile ownership, comprehensive in its diversions and utility: amenities include a theater, a gym, and a pool and spa. The grounds span 2.5 acres.
