It wasn’t long ago that Volvo spinoff EV manufacturer Polestar announced the production greenlight for the O2 concept — to be known as Polestar 6 by the time it reaches dealerships in the second half of 2025.

The latest news from Polestar concerns its crossover daily driver, the $84K Polestar 3. Not quite as exciting as the 6 in a purely driverly sense, perhaps, the Polestar 3 does continue the brand’s lineup development with an SUEV, indicating that the company will have a full dealership quiver to offer by the middle of the decade.

The Polestar 3 takes design cues from the company’s higher-end Precept model, which will be known as Polestar 5 when it hits the road. The Polestar 3 is a mid-sized SUV Polestar-ized; as an electric powertrain model, it redeems the body style. Wisely, Polestar will produce models for the U.S. market in this country — green, and grassroots, too.

The model’s exterior is concise and businesslike, with a suite of integrated aero components and blade headlamps contributing greatly to the smart body language. There’s a subtle wing worked into the hood and another in the rear spoiler, and aero blades in back. At launch, the 3 will be outfitted with a dual-motor powertrain; a Performance Pack option brings the total available power to 380 kW and 910 Nm (671 lb-ft) of torque. The base range of the Polestar 3 is 379 miles (WLTP methodology).

The car’s tech foundation includes NVIDIA DRIVE and Qualcomm Snapdragon components, while performance features include dual-chamber air suspension. And it goes without saying that the 3 will share the Polestar family sensibility concerning sustainability, with material choices factoring in eventual reuse as the company moves toward a zero carbon footprint. Tempus fugit.
