Film producer Joel Silver, whose string of blockbuster in the 1980s and 1990s includes the Die Hard and Matrix franchises, has an affinity for architecturally significant when it comes to personal residences. He also likes the color pink, apparently, and the industrial-inspired Los Angeles modern he’s had on and off the market is initially more remarkable for its striking exterior color than it is for its architectural details.

However, a step inside the dusty rose-toned Brentwood mansion reveals architecture that is more remarkable for its fully fleshed-out 1990s postmodernism. The design inspirations hail as readily from Southwestern rusticity as they do from high modernity, although the latter seems to carry the day; among the more interesting spaces is the dining room, with a staggered tray ceiling that can’t be anything but one of a kind.

Scale is also a fundamental for this estate: its interiors measure in at 25,000 sq. ft., and it occupies a 4.5-acre piece of Brentwood Circle.

Silver’s Malibu estate went to a new owner about four years ago. The Lethal Weapon films producer initially put that home up for sale with a $57.5 million ask in 2016, ultimately passing the Carbon Beach property on to a new owner for $38 million in 2018.
