Earlier this summer, Mario Lopez put down roots in the Los Angeles-area community of La Cañada Flintridge. The actor and television host plunked down $9.365 million for the home, a brand-new contemporary with Spanish sympathies that has 9,282 sq. ft. to its credit inside and is surrounded by 1.21 acres’ worth of grounds.

The acquisition left Lopez with one house too many, but the multiple Young Artist award nominee elected to rent, and possibly sell, the existing home. The property hit the market recently at $6.5 million, or $25K per month.

The Glendale home, a thoroughgoing Spanish Eclectic completed in 1929 which, together with its companion two-bed guest cottage, offers renters eight bedrooms and seven baths across a total of 7,200 sq. ft. of interior living area.

The home’s interiors have been given a slew of updates as the decades have unfolded, but for the most part the design style has a certain cohesion, mainly due to the stone accents in transitional partials that were added during a particularly intense revision. Highlights of the interiors include the breakfast booth off the kitchen, the long studio — views of the city via a row of arched windows apply here, with narrow-plank hardwood adding a sense of intimacy and a bit of history — and the master bath, a cavernous space with a host of competing natural stone textures engaging the eye.

The terra-cotta tile that surrounds the main house eventually leads to the property’s guest cottage, which features a galley kitchen and a pair of tight but appealing bedrooms.
