Television personality and pop-culture critic Andy Cohen went house-hunting in Manhattan this summer and apparently emerged from his foray with the keys to a penthouse in a 1930s-built building in the West Village neighborhood, according to news reports. The host of Watch What Happens Live! is presently in contract to purchase the residence, which was listed in June with an asking price of $18.3 million.

The mid-rise residential building was designed by Emery Roth, and situated at one end of Abingdon Square Park. It was converted to condo in the 1980s, and contains 178 units.

The property which Cohen appears to have purchased is a three-bedroom, four-bath duplex unit with plentiful terrace space and tons of character. Listing information indicates the property hasn’t been on the market for four decades, and traipsing through a pictorial tour gives plenty of reasons why it has been beloved. Updates have been carried out through the years, but the rich narrative of the build era and the property’s history has been retained.

Among the unusual features of the home is the indoor/outdoor solarium. Integrated into the nearly-2000 sq. ft. terrace space, this enclosed room is floored in black and white tile and makes an ideal creative workspace. Other details at work in this property include glossy narrow-plank hardwood, 10-foot and 14-foot ceilings, plentiful glass, and the anchor of the great room: a massive fireplace.
