WWF board member and AES Corp. co-founder Roger Sant has put his full-floor Midtown Manhattan property up for sale this summer. The 6,800 sq. ft. condo is one of the Ritz-Carlton Central Park South residences, and it is priced at $39 million. If public records are accurate, Sand has owned the property since 2005.

The 102 feet of Central Park and city views will certainly be a primary selling point for this property. But the serene refinement of its design style is just as remarkable, and the interiors hold up very well.

Glossy hardwood paneling is tough to find these days; contemporary design sensibilities favor the understated, even reticent, in color and finish. Sand’s unit uses high-gloss hardwood throughout, and in conjunction with the lack of ornament — with the exception of the block motif that pops up in various forms across the living spaces — contrasts very well with the natural beauty of the park that’s a nearly constant sight by virtue of the floor-to-ceiling glass.

Of the individual spaces, the center gallery that is the preamble to the living style is certainly a highlight; specialized spaces include a library and formal dining room. The kitchen in this residence gets high marks. Outfitted with Poggenpohl cabinetry and Crema Marfil marble floors, it’s been given a generous slice of the floor area, and is certainly large enough for catering prep and service.

Sant’s net worth was previously estimated by Forbes at $1.7 billion.
