In the past decade, yachting design elements have occasionally but conspicuously crept into the designs of both cars and private jets. Polish luxury automotive tuning house Carlex has tailored Mercedes and Land Rover vehicles with a yachting theme; meanwhile, taking to the virtual air late last year was Lufthansa Technik’s yacht-inspired concept. In 2016 Embraer’s Skyacht One, which featured a cabin with a beautifully executed nautical theme, took to the actual skies, while in 2020, Alberto Pinto’s yacht-in-the-sky cabin design for a Chinese billionaire’s Airbus was completed and unveiled.

A recent design effort from Officina Armare, which dressed up a Bombardier Global 6000, continues the trend. This most recent example of a nautically minded business jet cabin is the first such commission undertaken by Officina Armare…the company’s creatives usually confine themselves to designing superyachts.

An ideal firm to handle the job, then. And the deco-inspired finished product — the customized plan is in concept phase right now — will reflect the company’s experience designing superyachts, and the ‘nothing but the best’ carte blanche generally granted in the exercise of its duties. And so material choices include leather from Hermès, and a special wool from Loro Piana, the venerable Italian textile specialist, alongside mahogany in a glossy finish that’s traditionally yachty and a blue-and-cream color scheme.

The layout of the customized Global 6000 creates abundant room for eight passengers, setting aside a good-sized chunk of the available space for an owner’s suite. A convertible bar/media center is also designed into the cabin.
