Rolls-Royce announced the second series of the Phantom this spring. The revised ‘super touring car’ will be the eight generation of the model and available in the 2023 model year.

The Phantom Series II can be distinguished from the outgoing iteration by some notable changes to its exterior styling. The model now features a glossy horizontal trim line on the car’s nose. Rolls has also illuminated the grille, and adjusted it to make brand symbolism more prominent. Additionally, the headlamps are now framed by celestial embellishments that recall and foreshadow the ‘Starlight Headliner’ that is a defining Rolls design touch. New milled 3D wheels in stainless can be replaced by optional disc wheels; the latter are drop-dead gorgeous.

The 2023 Phantom will include Rolls-Royce Connected, which displays the car’s vitals on Whispers and makes connection with the nearest dealership a pushbutton matter. The steering wheel is slightly thicker, and in the world of Rolls-Royce, that counts as a noteworthy update.

In the release fanfare for the Phantom Series II, Rolls spends a fair amount of time discussing customization. The options include darkening elements of the exterior, including the surrounds for the grille and windscreen, as well as full-on custom variations. It culminates in a special Phantom Platino version, which appears to be more or less a launch one-off of the 2023 Phantom. Although the front seats will still be upholstered in Rolls leather, the back seats will be sheathed in alternative textiles, including a silk-like fabric made from bamboo. A design motif will extend from this material to the 3D-printed ceramic surround of the dash clock. As always, customization options are limited only by your imagination and, of course, your wallet.
