Pop chanteuse Mariah Carey is apparently the new owner of a Georgian estate in Georgia. According to local reports, the singer shelled out $5.65 million for the sprawling Atlanta property in November of last year. She isn’t the first celebrity to take up residence at the address—Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a former tenant. In a highly mediatized incident dating back to 2020, The Rock had ripped out the property’s gate with his bare hands when a power outage caused it to become unresponsive.

The red brick mansion is perched on four acres of grounds, with the lion’s share of the land given over to a tightly groomed carpet of lawn. The 16,202 sq. ft. home features a neoclassical pediment entry; the soaring embellishment extends from the roof and is supported by four massive Ionic columns. Two sets of steps provide a lengthy preamble to entry, and when all is said and done stepping inside the 1951-built home is a grand prospect that whispers antebellum. One might expect to find a pitcher of peach iced tea in the foyer.

Inside, those thirsting for a few more neoclassical details will likely be sated; beyond the front door — which is flanked by sidelights and capped with a fanlight — the hardwood floor is inlaid with a meandros border, and one can spot dentil molding crowning the hardwood paneling in the parlor.

A house preoccupied with form, then, so a formal dining room is a natural; in this case, it receives a black marble fireplace with a wood mantel. A similar fireplace — but with red marble — can be spotted in the master bedroom, which also features French doors for access to an outdoor perch.

A tennis court and pool provide the primary outdoor amenities, putting the finishing touches on a Southern estate with a decidedly period living style.
