The longtime Manhattan residence of pop musician and royal family member Janet Jackson popped up on the open market this spring with an asking price of $8.995 million. The condo is located in One Central Park West, a building in Lincoln Square, across the street from Central Park. The property is located on a mid-level floor of the building.

The unit’s master suite gets a large portion of the condo’s 2,094 sq. ft., with three closets and a double-vanity bath. The living style is simple and elegant, with an entrance gallery presenting a formal introduction and a breakfast bar overlooking the park and 5th Ave. representative of one of the unit’s primary charms: location.

The condo’s L-shaped main living area is bordered in oversized glass panels; both dining and living areas take full advantage of the building’s views, while the kitchen is a discrete space, accessible through butler’s doors from two positions. Much of the residence is floored in mid-toned oak plank, with hardwood getting a better showing in the reading room—a converted bedroom—where a floor-to-ceiling bank of built-in shelving and cabinetry occupies much of one wall. The property contains three bedrooms and four baths in all.

Amenities at One Central Park West include a gym, a spa, and a business center.

Jackson has sold over 100 million records. Her career didn’t start with a bang, however; her first two albums failed to crack the top 50 of the Billboard 200 chart. At that point, she decided to take control of creative decisions and started writing or co-writing her own songs. Every subsequent album was a chart-topper, save a couple which peaked at no. 2. The first of those hit albums is, of course, 1986’s Control.
