Dutch firm U-Boat Worx has been catering to researchers and undersea spectators for going on two decades now. The company’s latest submersible is also one of its largest; the Nexus can take nine occupants 600 feet below sea level. It’s not quite 20,000 leagues, perhaps, but then the likelihood of having to battle a giant squid is greatly reduced.

A splendidly sophisticated toy for the superyacht owner, the Nexus is also a natural asset and wise investment for companies that offer underwater tours, and may stimulate the formation of a few new ones. The craft is virtually turnkey for this use case, with comfy-looking seats, easy entry and exit (with an elevator as an option), revolving seating and, most importantly, the ‘bubble’ — a translucent shell that gives passengers a panoramic look at an environment it’s otherwise rather difficult to survey without becoming damp.

The Nexus is designed to be towed to site, and can stay submerged for up to 18 hours. Its eight thrusters give it a speed of up to three knots.
