Jacob & Co.’s newest watch puts Batman in the spotlight. The esteemed horological house calls the timepiece the Gotham City, and it riffs on the dark urbanity of the fantasy world’s most popular destination (aside from Arkham) while giving credit where it is due: to the hero-come-antihero with the fabulous toys.
The watch’s design strikes a nice balance between comic-book homage and grown-up understatement, a neat trick. But the watch’s face is a study in the technical, with the subject matter relegated to a yellow-bordered silhouette of the batman arc lamp searchlight; the symbol also pops up on the crown.
In Jacob & Co.’s traditional style, the Gotham gives the tourbillon mechanisms equal billing, and the watch’s case is beefy. Crime fighters take note, however: if your duties take you into amphibious operations, don’t get in too far over your head; the Gotham City can only submerge to 30 meters before running into trouble.
