The latest watch to emerge from the partnership of Jacob & Co. and Bugatti is a new one-off timepiece: the Bugatti Chiron Blue Sapphire. The singular watch’s uniquely effective shade of blue is achieved by fabricating the case out of a single piece of sapphire, a task that takes several months to accomplish, and reveals the activity of all 578 components.
Like other watches developed by Jacob & Co. and Bugatti, the Bugatti Chiron Blue Sapphire Crystal watch features a functional miniaturization of the famous Bugatti W16 engine: the tourbillon, which itself required an investment of a year of work.
The W16, a paragon of the automotive world that has been tuned to produce nearly 2,000 horsepower in one Bugatti model, is echoed in the mechanical fundamental, which has 16 piston-like parts and a pair of little turbochargers moving as the watch keeps time. And, like others in the history of the collaboration, its case is designed in the shape of a tonneau.
Previous entries in the Jacob & Co. and Bugatti collaboration include the Twin Turbo Furious Bugatti Sapphire Crystal.
The Chiron Blue Sapphire Crystal watch is priced at $1.5 million.
