About eight months after putting his trophy residence in Beverly Hills Post Office up for rent at $250K per month, screenwriter, producer and director Jeff Franklin has listed the property for sale. The massive, grandiose SoCal take on a Mediterranean villa with palatial aspirations is priced at $85 million.

The house was designed by Richard Landry. It’s the second Landry-designed home owned by Franklin; he sold the first, titled Collingwood House, for $20 million in late 2016. That same year, his eye for valuable real estate also led him to purchase the Full House house for $4 million.

Landry’s designs encapsulate extravagance, and the BHPO house, an early example from his oeuvre — it was completed in 2020 — is a good example of his work. Packing in a lengthy series of readily recognizable details from classical mansions and villas in the Mediterranean, it represents a heroic attempt to capture the spirit of the region’s aristocratic indulgences. The most striking of these details is the Palladian dome that brings added complexity to the roofline.

Along the way, there is contemporary high-dollar California taste to consider, and the house opens broadly to its outdoor living area and the views of the city afforded by its hillside position. And, of course, it is packed to the gills with amenities; the litany includes a fitness room and spa, game room, and home theater. Decorative touches include the series of aquariums that contribute to the lavish interior living style.
