A powered floating luxury condo development will soon be a reality. The massive residential craft is being built by Norwegian builder VARD, a subsidiary of Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri. This month, interior concept renderings were revealed for the 33,500-gross-ton yacht.

Somnio, a 728-foot multi-family motoryacht with an 89-foot beam, has been called a yacht liner; if it sees completion, it will be the first of its kind. It is expected to cost $600 million to build, and is scheduled to put to sea for its maiden voyage in 2024. A somewhat similar vessel called The World was launched in 2002 and offers 165 residences on board, though that one is closer to a cruise liner. Nevertheless, it remains wildly popular.

Swedish firms Tillberg Design of Sweden and Luttenberger Design, and English company Winch Design, will be on hand to personally develop each individual Somnio residence. The interior images offer a glimpse into the residential lifestyle of the waterborne condo building where an entry-level unit will start at $11 million, with each design firm contributing their vision for onboard living.

Condo design merges contemporary expectations for high-end condo materials and nautical details; a look at the images developed for Somnio’s properties reveals a wealth of hardwood, reclaimed timber accents, LED backlit tray ceilings, natural stone, and glass opening onto private balconies. Individual residences will feature interior floorplans measuring at least 1,600 sq. ft.; the largest units will come with over 6,500 sq. ft. of living space.

Amenities on board Somnio include a beach club, and various dining and nightlife establishments. Opportunities will be presented by invitation only, and residents’ names will be kept secret.
