Coachbuilder Ares Design has come up with a compelling house style in its relatively short existence. From heavyweight 70s-nostalgia-meets-contemporary exotics like the ProgettoUno, which used a Lamborghini as a means to resurrect the De Tomaso Pantera—to the company’s terrifying S1 Project hypercar, Ares’s voice is a singular one. And they’ve even taken to the water every now and again.

Still and all, the company’s bread and butter is the enhancing of existing models. This year, Ares has already put its stamp on the Tesla Model S and the classic Land Rover Defender. The latest high-end four-wheeled conveyance to get the Ares treatment is the Porsche 992 Targa.

Ares’s new take on a Targa follows its 2018 revision of the GT3 Targa, and like the earlier enhancement it keeps the faith without ruffling the feathers of the fundamentalist, quietly working its magic beneath the surface. Ares added a carbon fiber body kit—they reached out to Modenese Centro Stile for the parts—that makes the model wider; unsurprisingly, the car gets girth mainly in the back.

The Ares 992 Targa also receives glossy silver wheels, trim and T-top. The interior is gorgeous, and designed for a Porsche lover who knows their 1970s classics—it look right out of a 1975 showroom, with tan leather extending to the steering wheel.
