It’s been two and a half years since Rivian introduced the world to its R1T electric truck. The initial reveal had teeth—a truck-specific U.S. auto manufacturer for the new decade and new drivetrain revolution with a terrific design.
The R1T has seen delays along the line, and its 2020 deliveries are now a past-tense fantasy. The company is currently shooting for September of this year to begin getting its Launch Edition examples into showrooms, and the timeline looks to be set in stone. To give the R1T a bit more usage versatility, a touch of summertime leisure cachet, and a bump in the news outlets too, the company this month revealed a camping option for the model: a kitchen.
In keeping with the niftily engineered and super-efficiency of the Rivian design style, the optional cooking space is neatly tucked away in the body of the truck when not in use, and slides out easily when the landing gear are down and the campfire’s burning.
The hideaway kitchen is a major component of the Camp Kitchen x Snow Peak package, which also includes a kitchen set and ‘Gear Tunnel Shuttle’. It can be combined with a tent package for a full-on camping experience with a total premium of about $7,500 over base sticker.
