Married actors Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones put their Manhattan pied-a-terre up for sale this summer.  The Upper West Side property is priced at $21.5 million.

The original 15-room property was converted into 9 rooms; Zeta-Jones and Douglas commissioned Thierry Despont to design the interiors. Interior design and architecture mavens will recognize the name; Despont was the creative behind the Plaza’s Palm Court and the designer of the residential tenor of the Woolworth Building project. He was also commissioned by Calvin Klein to orchestrate the interiors of the fashion designer’s Hamptons modern.

The revision makes the library, living room and dining room one extended space; the current owners have placed a billiards table between them, and the layout puts this central living space on the park side of the unit. The residence also features a kitchen that’s a paragon of utility and optimism: bright white walls and ceilings, commercial appliances, and a sunny attached dayroom.

Glossy hardwood runs throughout the apartment, with herringbone popping up in the living room, library, and entrance gallery. The master bedroom is of course corner-positioned; its bath boasts a subtle black-on-white color scheme and an alcove tub, and a pair of walk-in closets is featured in the layout. Two additional bedroom suites and a staff room complete the accommodations.

Last year, Zeta-Jones and Douglas listed another interesting property: the couple’s 250-acre vacation estate in Mallorca. The duo’s residential acquisitions of the recent past include their 2019 purchase of a 1920s red brick mansion in Westchester.

Douglas’ upcoming projects include Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania; the Marvel superhero film also stars Paul Rudd and Michelle Pfeiffer.
