This home in Malibu was until recently owned by pop-rock hitmaker Richard Marx and his wife, model and television host Daisy Fuentes. The property reached the open market this past winter and sold this spring, according to Dirt.
The rustic contemporary Mediterranean-style house spans 6,000 sq. ft., and was priced at $6.295 million during its time on the market. An offer of $6.1 million was the ticket, and Marx and Fuentes were on their way to a new house a bit inland in Hidden Hills, where they sank $8.95 million into a contemporary traditional.
The Malibu spot has been titled Villa Mariposa. Its lifestyle is Italian-inspired; there is a great deal of fieldstone inside and out, and a fair amount of tile and raw or lightly stained wood to sustain the Tuscanesque illusion. The main entrance is a set of double doors—the wood has been given a weathered, aged look—inside a staggered, arched recess that is flanked by lanterns.
On the ocean side, the home gains a floor. The house is built into a hillside, with one floor facing inland, and a set of stone steps descending to the outdoor living area in back. Landscaping appears to mostly use native flora, keeping to the spirit of Malibu, although there’s some bamboo surrounding the landscaped waterfall for a Japanese-style garden effect.
Marx’s latest studio release is last year’s Limitless.
