The 2022 BMW M3 and M4 Competition were revealed recently. For the upcoming model year, the sporty pair is priced from $77,895.
There were no major changes needed under the hood of the M3 and M4. The engine for the duo carries over from the 2021 model year. In the Competition-enhanced M3 and M4, the power plant is tuned to deliver 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. And xDrive gives the two models their best 0-60 time: both make the leap in 3.4 seconds, an improvement of 0.4 seconds over the rear-wheel drive setup.
The xDrive option includes 2WD, 4WD, and 4WD Sport driving modes, with Dynamic Stability Control dropped in 2WD. Sport is designed for track driving—or aggressive weekend workouts on quiet roads—but 4WD is the default setting for the drivetrain.
All of the M3 and M4 cars are outfitted with BMW’s 8-speed Steptronic; no manual is offered, but this automatic design allows you to have the stick experience when you want it. The M Drive Professional package is available on both, and brings a bevy of options that includes M Carbon Ceramic or M Compound brakes, and a speed package that raises the bar from 155 MPH to 180.
