Some of the recent news from Audi resonates for the American auto market: the first quarter of 2021 saw record sales for the e-tron SUV. The story bodes well for the whole e-tron lineup—and, more generally, the acceptance of alternate-energy drivetrains by U.S. buyers—so Audi followed up by revealing new, all-electric 2022 Q4 models: the Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron.

The Q4 variants offer an attractive package under $45,000 and strike a nice balance between SUV and crossover design language by way of coupe-inspired lines. The models look rough-and-ready with their staggered wheel sizes, and feature sculpted sides and mirrors, and an aggressive nose that is accented with Audi’s Matrix LED headlamps. The daytime running-light settings of the variants are customizable.

The Q4 e-tron SUVs are also broad-spectrum in appeal—‘for everything and everyone,’ as Audi’s marketing patter has it. Both are workhorses in the making. Large water bottle holders in the doors, recycled cabin materials, and a customizable cargo area load floor are among the more pragmatic features of the duo.

Among the tech features: a steering wheel which hands-on detection; it can control the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. Infotainment is controlled via the 10.1-inch MMI display. The surround-view camera system and augmented-reality head-up display are optional. Range for the Q4 40 e-tron variants is estimated at 250 miles, which may be a conservative figure.

The 40 model boasts a single rear-mounted motor producing 201 horses, while a more powerful dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup—found in the Q4 50 e-tron—will offer 295. The Sportback will only be available in a dual-motor configuration.
