When the 2022 IS 500 F SPORT Performance was revealed by Lexus in February of this year, it heralded the return of the V8 to the lineup. The first case study in V8 power will arrive, on North American shores only, as a special Launch Edition of the nimble, quick-witted variant.

Only 500 examples of the Launch Edition will be produced, and all will come with a special color specifically for the production run. Lexus calls it Incognito; it’s a crepuscular gray that’s more intriguing than moody. The company’s press release on the car also details 19-inch, seven-spoke forged alloy wheels in matte black.

The Launch Edition cabin boasts Ultrasuede upholstery in black and gray, center console included. A corresponding badge with the individual production number is featured in the car. Creature comforts specific to the limited run include a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel. Additionally, an edition-specific animation will play on the instrument panel during startup.

Like the IS 500, the Launch Edition’s naturally-aspirated, 5.0L V8 delivers 472 horsepower at 7,100 rpm, and 395 pound-feet of torque at 4,800 rpm.

You can expect to see the IS 500 F Sport Performance Launch Edition at select dealerships this fall.
