A recent announcement from Audi should make the more adventurous drivers among the brand’s faithful very happy. It details the upcoming e-tron GT, a formidable and very attractive entry in the company’s e-tron range, and its high-flying halo EV.

Audi introduced the electric grand tourer at the 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show as a hunkered fastback prowler with a hexagonal steering wheel and lots of late-2010s LED flash, and the production draft that followed a little over a year later toed the line for the most part.

Fast forward another year, and the GT’s fascia drama has been toned down a little bit, the creases have been refined, and the steering wheel’s been smoothed to flat-bottom only. Standard issue are 20-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, a three-chamber air suspension, rear differential lock, and green interior with a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit.

The GT is driven by permanently excited synchronous motors front and back. The performance numbers look as attractive as the car’s lines: a total horsepower rating of over 520 with overboost at launch—and 472 pound-feet of torque—a 3.9-second 0-60 time, and a top speed of 152.

The e-tron GT’s 800-watt electrical architecture can charge at 207 kW for fast fueling, taking the available energy from 5% to 80% in a little over twenty minutes. The car’s EPA range rating hovers around 235 miles.

The e-tron GT will base sticker at $100K for 2022.
