In October of this year, Bridget Fonda and Danny Elfman listed a pair of adjacent Los Angeles-area residential properties for sale. The larger of the two houses in Hancock Park—which the couple purchased first, was priced at $8.8 million; it sold this month for $8.75 million.

Not surprising, as the home is a singular example. An Italian Renaissance villa, it was completed in the late 1930s, and features such craftsmanship details that begin with the ornate carved stone decorating the entryway.

Step inside, and into an intensely liberating foyer with a soaring ceiling, a floor of contrasting tile, limestone walls, and exposed timbers. Other standouts including the great room—at the time of the sale, purposed as a screening room—with an inlaid harlequin-pattern hardwood floor, a carved stone fireplace, and an opaque glass ceiling surrounded by groin vault embellishments.

Ornamental hardwood ceilings, panoramic wallpaper, wood paneling, frescoes, and an outdoor garden living area with a pool and extensive patio space are additional details of this overwhelmingly engaging home.

Fonda and Elfman’s second property—a Prairie-style that is similarly expressive—remains on the market at $5.8 million.
