Comedian and actor Kathy Griffin has been busily shuffling around Los Angeles-area residential real estate over the past few months. The satirist sold her 13,000 square-footer in Bel-Air only recently—accepting a $14 million offer against the $16 million ask the home was tagged with when it hit the market in September—and now she’s turned around and purchased a crisp modern in Malibu for $8.8 million.
The 8,200 sq. ft. house looks like it just sprouted its concrete and glass boxiness last week, which is close to the truth; this is a very new build, and Griffin is the home’s first owner. Its façade is appealingly open, and honest in that way a fine modern-style should be, showing a transparency to the world at large that is never less than appealing and energizing.
There are five bedrooms and seven baths in the house. Most importantly, however, its lot measures nearly two acres, allowing for plenty of breathing room, and its hilltop location—and rooftop terrace—makes the fine panorama of desert landscaping, local landscape and ocean a potently meaningful context.
