German tuner and Mercedes specialist Hofele Design’s new G-Class aspires to be an apogee for the model, a definitive statement that will stand the test of time. It comes with a moniker that says it all: Ultimate HG.
As a tuned G-Class, the Ultimate HG loses any pretensions of off-road utility. This is a Rodeo Drive ride, not a pricey alternative for serious backcountry exploration. Hofele gave the G-Class a set of coach doors—to facilitate entry and exit, they say, but darn they look nifty—and a set of the tuning firm’s likely-proprietary Electronically Deployable Side Steps to augment the massaging VIP seating in back…coach-like hyperbole, then.
Exterior cosmetics of the Ultimate include carbon fiber components, including wheel arches, a new grille, and chrome side strips; inside, Nappa leather and Alcantara in grey tones are given exclusive stitching patterns. The rig rides on 23-inch Hofele rims, and of course the SUV receives a Hofele two-tone paint scheme.
Hofele is marketing the Ultimate HG as a limousine alternative. They make a good argument.
