One of the Chicago-area Frank Lloyd Wright-designed homes surfaced on the open market this week with a $1.695 million ask. The 1950-built residence is called the Carr House; it contains four bedrooms and four baths in its 2,973 sq. ft. of interior living space.

The Usonian home in Glenview features the trademarks of the Wright style: equipoise between stern stylistic formality and warm quality of life, a blending with the immediate landscape, the use of intriguing and stimulating patterns, and a mix of readily available materials and luxury materials that collectively establish a textural complexity.

The angular roof flourish and series clerestories strike out jarringly and liberate simultaneously, and connect the main house with the guest house/studio. Materials used in the home include Honduran mahogany, brick and terra-cotta.

The home sits on a three-acre lot—there is an additional three acres available as a companion sale—which allows the property to meander, and include a pool and patio, lawn and forest along the way.
