This glassy Beverly Hills contemporary has had a busy few years. Pharrell Williams is its current owner; he paid Tyler Perry $15.6 million for it in 2018. Perry, in turn, owned it for about a year before listing it, dropping $14.5 million on it in the summer of 2017.

Williams listed the property in the late spring of this year with an asking price of just under $17 million. But the home’s unusual design and layout—most especially its transparent façade—are heavily stylized, and it took about six months for the house to sell. When it did, Williams only saw $14 million of his investment return to him.

The home’s sense of luxury comes by way of scale, interior landscaping, and of course the liberation of all that glass. It’s more than a bit angular, with geometric shapes voiced frequently enough to establish a theme or motif. Its amenities are unusually engaging, with the large, lagoon-style pool with waterfall and grotto pulled off extremely well. But the interior garden and water features beneath the soaring ceiling of the main living space takes the prize.

The lot is a big one: 4.2 acres. A tennis court, walking paths, and a rooftop terrace with panoramic views of the L.A. environs complete the singular estate.

Williams purchased a Florida home earlier this year for $30 million. His striking Hollywood Hills architectural is on the market for $12 million.

Williams has won 13 Grammy Awards. He recently collaborated with Jay-Z on single Entrepreneur.
