In a peculiar turn of events, talent show judge, producer and impresario Simon Cowell has purchased singer Leona Lewis’ Hidden Hills property and relisted it in short order. According to public records, the little equestrian estate went to Cowell for $3.9 million. He relisted it for $3.695 million within days of buying it.

Strange indeed, but the house—which was constructed in 1963—is generally quite conventional. The gated property extends to 1.17 acres, and is filled out with a main house, a guest house, and a stable with access to the Hidden Hills trails amid grassy, tree-dotted grounds.

The main house is a single-floor dwelling with a brick exterior. The interiors are dominated by cool tones and natural-toned wood. Ornament is kept to a minimum, and overall the living style feels quite modern.

The entertaining potential of this property is excellent. The wide-open living room features a wood ceiling with a center beam, a fireplace, and an impressive sense of scale; a series of skylights illuminates and liberates the space. A bar—one of two on the property—and a covered pavilion sits poolside.

The kitchen is something of a 90s time capsule: granite countertops, and toning that alternates between beiges and very cool natural-finished hardwood and a striking shade of blue-purple, with small blue pendants above that recall Pottery Barn during the height of the catalog era. The scheme pops up in the guest house as well.

The guest house and main house together offer nearly 6,000 square feet of living space, with five bedrooms and seven baths overall.

Cowell signed many of the world’s most successful artists, including Leona Lewis and boybands Westlife and One Direction.
