Coronavirus, Vuitton style. The famous French fashion house has a way to beat the coronavirus blues: use it as an opportunity for self-expression. Enter the Louis Vuitton face shield.
Vuitton’s spin on the public health necessity is included in the company’s Cruise Collection for 2021. That may seem like unfortunate forecasting, but this little bug we’re being forced to cohabitate with isn’t going anywhere ahead of a vaccine. Which means that, in addition to a proper face covering, face protection is a sensible additional measure.
Vuitton’s mask features a head band in classic Vuitton monogram iconography. The shield itself appears to be a simple slice of utilitarian plastic however it is photochromatic; it darkens when exposed to light. The versatile accessory doubles as a visor when flipped up.
The face shield is expected to carry a price tag around $1,000 and will appear in stores at the end of October.
