Frank Lloyd Wright was very active in Arizona from the 1930s; his residence Taliesen West was completed in 1937, and numerous civic and private property designs followed—including one for his son, David. And that house—located in Phoenix—has just sold on the open market, closing at $7.25 million against the $10 million ask the home had been listed with prior to the sale. The property had been initially listed in 2018 at $13 million.

The David and Gladys Wright House is designed in a ‘spiral’ style. Another Arizona property designed in a similar style is the Lykes House, also in Phoenix; that home went to auction last year. Both homes were late Wright designs, with the Lykes House the architect’s last.

Elevated and boasting a sculpted appearance, the David and Gladys Wright House was designed to be cooled by desert winds. It is located in Arcadia, an upscale neighborhood on the border of Scottsdale. The house measures about 2,200 square feet, and contains three bedrooms. Interiors feature plentiful wood and glass, as well as built-in seating and a custom-designed carpet.

The property includes a guest house, as well as a courtyard and paths that are illuminated by a complex series of lamps, setting a dramatic tenor after dark.
