At one time, this Beverly Hills estate was the home of late billionaire Norton Simon. The property sold this week courtesy of Simon’s son, fetching $25 million when all was said and done, according to the Los Angeles Times. It had been listed for upwards of $42 million during its most recent sojourn on the open market.

The house—which was designed by noted architect Peter Choate—features interiors that span over 10,500 square feet, with five bedrooms and nine baths throughout its single level. Its living style is informed by the lush landscaping of the grounds; after a lengthy, tree-lined drive and front walk, the home begins with an atrium foyer.

Detains abound in the 1985-built home, accumulating into a pleasing diversity without a hint of incongruity. Cathedral ceilings, stone fireplaces, glass walls, and custom tile emerge in the shared living spaces. Within the rambling layout—which encourages the act of discovery—is a series of specialized rooms and semi-staircases. Standouts include the step-down, hardwood-paneled salon/reading room, and the step-down transition room.

The grounds that can only be described as sylvan. They include gardens, lawns, a pool and a wealth of mature trees that dot the property and comprise its border.

Simon passed away in 1993. He was one of the richest men in America, with a net worth in the neighborhood of $10 billion.
