Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian ideal envisioned a future where aesthetics and functionality in architecture and interior design were so entwined they essentially became the same gesture; as house and landscape informed each other, so would house and furnishings. In the end, a harmonious link between all would result.
That’s a good perspective from which to launch a new collection, and precisely what the furniture maker Inside Weather has done, in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
The furniture pieces espouse Usonian philosophy, and the end result is a series that is both remarkably ergonomic and sculptural; materials, of course, are sustainable and easily obtainable, just like Usonian home materials.
The collection includes three pieces at present. The Edgar Lounge Chair riffs on Fallingwater, the West Ottoman on Taliesin West, and the Hanna Side Table on the Hanna—or Honeycomb—House.
The pieces also riff on the Usonian Automatic DIY series of homes; each piece does require some assembly.
