Hedge fund manager Marc Lasry picked up this pre-WWII Spanish-style home in Los Feliz recently. The renovated home was initially priced at $5.4 million when it hit the market last September, but the ask had dropped to $5 million prior to the sale. Lasry called it his for $4.8 million.

The house is idyllically framed by a meandering thicket of palms, a romantic setting for a romantic style. A red tile roof, window awnings, and central turret are visible through the fronds from the street.

The interiors measure 6,263 square feet, with 5 bedrooms and 8 baths throughout. Details—both period and specific to previous owners—accumulate rapidly into a varied, stylized whole; original tile, carved beams, and plank oak combine with pattern wall covering, cool tones, and an eclectic mix of light fixtures for a disparate and somewhat bohemian, come-what-may overall feel. The green reading room comes off especially well, with French doors contextualizing the color a prelude to the verdant landscaping of the exterior living area, and cushioned bench seats and built-ins lending a cottagey, earthy component to the living style.

The master suite is of a piece with this accumulated feel, although going for carpeted walls is an adventurous choice these days. A kiva fireplace augments the softness.

Lasry is co-owner of the Milwaukee Bucks. His net worth is about $1.8 billion.
