Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport: Pair With Long, Winding Roads

Bugatti’s newest Chiron variant takes on the alpine driving experience with aplomb. It’s called the Pur Sport, and it boasts a diminished curb weight—it has lost 110 pounds, all told, over the production Chiron— and augmented downforce, in greater part by way of a large, fixed rear wing.

The Pur Sport doesn’t add any power to the standard Chiron. But, unlike the Super Sport 300+ that emerged last year, and set a record at the VW Group’s testing grounds, the Ehra-Lessien, the Pur Sport isn’t intended for triumphant linear speed performances. This is a version of the Chiron that’s happier in the Maritime Alps—or the Sierra Nevada foothills—than in Beverly Hills.

A set of specially designed wheels helps the Pur Sport shed weight. But they perform another service to this newest Chiron: they help manage airflow, employing what Bugatti calls aero-blades to manage air, and ferry it to the rear of the car. A new Sport+ mode is designed to help keep the car stable when giving it a workout.

If you’re thinking that this Chiron to be substantially stiffer than the standard production version, you’re right on the money. Bugatti says that it’s up to 65 percent stiffer, actually. But they also claim no alteration in the standard Chiron’s smooth ride.

The Chiron Pur Sport will only be produced in a run of 60 examples. It will be priced at three million euros.
