Julia Roberts’ new home in San Francisco required an $8.3 million investment, but the Victorian has great potential as a getaway.

The shingled home was built early in the last century, and spans 6,200 square feet. It begins with a few striking elements of formal craftsmanship, including leaded windows, carved embellishments, and a row of dentils above the entrance.

Within, the house charms immediately, with very warm plank oak floors, a traditional staircase, and an off-white execution that emphasizes natural light, and gives the common areas a brightness to accompany the compartmental layout. Details are many, and include the fireplaces in the living and dining rooms—fabricated from the same marble—as well as the kitchen, which features abundant built-ins, soft green cabinetry, island, and built-in bench seat, and a farmhouse sink.

The architecture allows for a nook-and-cranny feel to crop up fairly frequently, including a salon with a fireplace, a small terrace off the kitchen which is used as a grille station, and the garden deck. The master suite—one of five bedrooms and five baths in the home—is as charmingly period, with a bay window and seat, and a private terrace. An office, a walk-in closet, and an upper-level lounge with a fireplace are other standout spaces.

Roberts’ other residential properties in California include a series of homes in Malibu. She picked one up in Point Dume as recently as 2017, following another purchase in 2016. That same year, she sold her beachfront Hawaii retreat to ‘Bachelor’ Mike Fleiss for $19.5 million.
