In the fall of 2018, TV producer and CSI franchise creator Anthony Zuiker listed this contemporary in Malibu for $9.5 million. The home relisted in the spring of this year with a price increase of half a mil, which is the ask Atlanta Hawks’ player Chandler Parsons contended with when he offered $9.3 million for the dramatically revised home in late 2019.
The offer was accepted, and Parsons now owns a residence which cuts an imposing figure in its exterior architecture, marrying contemporary design elements with a kind of menacingly monolithic aesthetic. Poured concrete and suggestions of both Balinese style and the Mediterranean that still exists beneath the heavy renovation define the home from the street; a massive riff on an arbor entry stands as a most unique prologue to the interiors, suggesting prehistory.
Which open up into a warm shared living space with good scale and a fine balance between the ponderous quality of concrete and a great deal of satin-finished walnut. A large square clerestory presides over the foyer, implicitly suggesting liberation. Not a lot of ornament here but for the figuring of wood grain, although the semi-circular flourish in the living room’s layout vaguely riffs on streamline. Grays predominate, with cane wall covering in the dining room lightening things up a bit.
The 5,500 square feet of interiors transition to a gracefully tropical-style exterior living area whenever possible. Abundant deck space, a summer kitchen, a covered outdoor lounge with fire feature, a pool and spa, and a tennis court are among the recreational features of the property; a detached guest house is situated just beyond the pool.
