Billionaire Vladislav Doronin Looking to Sell the World’s Only Zaha Hadid-Designed Home for $100M

In her remarkable career, Zaha Hadid only designed one house. It reportedly came up for sale this autumn. It’s priced at about $100 million.

Steep, but by some accounts less expensive than the rumored whisper listing ask that current owner—Russian billionaire Vladislav Doronin—had been floating about for a few years before the residence appeared on the market. The asking price was in the neighborhood of $150 million, according to local reports. The singularity of the property speaks for itself, though. The cost of its construction is said to be around $140 million.

The house is called ‘Capital Hill Residence’, and it is situated in a very upscale community in the Barvikha Forest outside Moscow. The exterior is designed as a ship of sorts—ocean-going or cosmos-ready, and perhaps both by turns. The massing is deck-like; the master suite is the superstructure, positioned above the tree line to allow blue-sky views for its owner, and accessible by elevator and stairs.

Hadid’s whimsical riffs on sci-fi and biological forms are met by the forcefulness of the expression. An imperious and masculine design, Capital Hill Residence is both explorer and arbiter of its landscape. And, like all Hadid designs, it suggests movement and/or progression in very strong terms.

Interior shots of the house are, unfortunately, not readily available. But a look at the exterior of this unusually cerebral and exciting trophy home is engaging and worthwhile.
