Robin Williams’ sunny oceanfront Marin County residence turned up on the open market this month. Williams purchased the home in 2008 for a little over $4 million; his estate has listed it at $7.25 million a decade later.
The 6,517 square feet of interiors ramble along a single floor, giving the home a large footprint; a U-shape allows for considerable privacy on the oceanfront terrace. The design boasts a few other very pleasing features, including a sliding glass door that opens directly onto the pool, and the master bedroom’s position in a perpendicular section at one end of the home.
The 6-bed, 6.5-bath house opens as often as possible to the terrace, with at least half a dozen glass sliders offering transition. The interior shared living space is bright, airy and unpretentious, and bedrooms are relaxed and down-to-earth. The master features a walk-in closet finished in pale hardwood—maple? Ash?—cabinetry, shelving and wardrobe space.
Other notable rooms in the home include the creative workspace. Here, oak paneling and a formal marble fireplace set a somewhat different tone, setting the atmosphere as bookish and hardworking.
William’s passed away in 2014 after a career of about four decades. He grew up in this part of Marin County, and called it home for much of his life.
