Harley Davidson is in a state of transition. With sales of traditional heavyweight Hogs on the decline, it’s turning to more adventurous and even eco-friendly designs to entice millennials and today’s thirty-somethings into the Harley fold. The LiveWire electric bike appeared at this time last year, but the Pan America and Bronx models have been vague promises delivered by the company’s marketing division in the months since.
That is, until now. Harley took to this year’s EICMA to reveal details about both bikes, and their newly designed liquid-cooled V-twin, which they’re calling the Revolution Max engine.
The Pan America is Harley’s first adventure—that is, hybrid off-road/highway—motorcycle. Designed to be the ideal choice for riders whose weekends could lead them to both trailheads and on-ramps, the Pan America attempts to transpose the classic Harley associations of outsider romance and limitlessness. Its version of the Revolution V-twin displaces 1250cc.
The Bronx is the downtown streetfighter of the duo. Its V-twin displaces 975cc, and can deliver over 115 horsepower and 70 pound-feet of torque. Harley is still pretty tight-lipped about this middleweight entry, though, aside from a bit of marketing-speak that attributes it with ‘Unapologetic attitude…’. ’Nuff said.
