Audi’s capable-looking V10 screamer, the R8, is back for 2020—and for the long haul, as it happens. Demand for the model has been high, and Audi is confident of selling a whole caboodle of them in the next few years.

So enter the R8 as a regular production car. Nothing much will change with its change of status, although the shift to open-ended R8 availability will cause some gnashing of teeth among collectors who hoped for a high resale in the early 2020s. The R8 will continue production in both Spyder and Coupe versions—each having lost about 150 pounds from its respective limited-ed version—and their non-turbo 5.2L V10s will produce 532 horsepower, delivering the goods via the familiar 7-speed S Tronic gearbox.

Audi has worked a few tweaks to streamline the design language of the model for next year, with new components including aero—air intakes and front splitter, for example—as well as a re-positioned diffuser in back.

Cosmetic changes include two-tone fins; the black trim can be augmented with the Carbon Styling Package. The cabin boasts the expected marriage of track performance inspiration and creature comfort, with leather sport seats, Alcantara trim, and contrast upholstery stitching.

The 2020 R8 will appear in Germany next year, with the Coupe starting at $160K and the Spyder at $174K.
