Newly minted L.A. Clippers forward Maurice Harkless invested in a bit of residential real estate in Venice, California, this week when he plunked down $3.36 million for a 4,000 square-foot modern above Lincoln Boulevard.

It appears that Harkless is the first owner of the house, which further appears to have been a spec build. The land sold in 2015 for $1.3 million, according to public records, with the finished residence landing on the market for the first time in the summer of 2016 with an asking price of $4.2 million. The ask had been reduced to $3.595 million prior to the sale, indicating that a bidding fracas occurred before Harness’ offer was accepted.

The home’s exterior architecture is a delightful condensing of modern angularity, boxiness and glassiness. A blazing white treatment, wood accents, and industrial-inspired balcony and terrace balustrades provide the icing on the cake.

The 4-bed, 5-bath home’s interiors unfold not as an open concept common living area, however, but with a kind of nook-and-cranny compartmental feel modified by all the glass. The home features a fair amount of wood grain, with wide-plank natural-finished hardwood floors and staircase treads, and dark cabinetry in the kitchen and master bath.

The exterior living spaces follow suit, with the blue tile-floored master terrace having a particularly secluded, cozy feel that’s augmented by an ancient palm. The concept home works well with its lot size, making the pool and spa area into a semi-courtyard that’s completed with a small wood-floored patio.

Harkless joined the Clippers this summer after spending four seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers.
