BMW’s marvelously mismatched i-siblings each received a marketing booster shot late this summer when BMW rolled out the i3 RoadStyle and i8 Ultimate Sophisto limited edition variations.
The limited production run EVs are pure cosmetic editions. Of the two, the i3 comes off best; its puckish, can-do looks are nicely enhanced by the glossy ‘Fluid Black’ paint, E-Copper trim, and dark brown interior. The scheme turns the nifty urban ride into a slick little gent about town.
The i8 looks stunning, as usual; those lines are to die for. The name of the edition—‘Ultimate Sophisto’—sounds like a sobriquet a lottery-winning rube on a Manhattan spree might adopt, but the grey-and-copper color scheme and 20-inch wheels cut a fine figure. The interior’s bold…grey, black, and orange.
Both editions feature special badging, of course, indicating their limited availability. 900 examples of the i3 RoadStyle will be produced, while the i8 Ultimate Sophisto will be limited to 200.
