Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Asking $24M for Santa Barbara County Beach House

A little less than two years ago, this four-bedroom beachfront contemporary in Carpinteria mysteriously disappeared from the open market. It seems that restless serial flippers Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi had struck again, paying out $18.6 million to take on a trophy home situated in one of the more desirably secluded waterfront spots north of Los Angeles.

The 6,860 square footer is back on the market in early summer 2019; the duo has hung a $24 million ask on it this time around. It has been renovated, of course, but not extensively. Essentially, it has been merely updated. In the living room, for example, the series accent windows so common to mid-70’s-to-mid-80s contemporaries have vanished without a trace, and the floors have been refinished as natural, removing the effusive warmth of the original finish from the composition. The wood cabinetry has been painted over in off-white—including in the kitchen—taking quite a bit of the texture out of the picture, too.

It’s still mightily inviting, though, presenting a living style that’s more transparent than it used to be; the setting seems to shine through even more intensely than before. The exterior is defined by the same weathered cedar shingles—a taste of period coastal California—as well as abundant living space, including a rooftop terrace with a fireplace, a secluded deck with a fireplace, and another deck that surveys the beach.
