Iconic evening news anchor Tom Brokaw has reduced the ask on his Westchester retreat to $4.25 million. The 36-acre lakefront property is located about an hour outside Manhattan. It served as an idyllic retreat for Brokaw and his wife.
The longtime face of the “NBC Nightly News” originally purchased the vacation spot in 1998, for $4.25 million. Just last year, the sprawling country property was listed with an asking price of $6.3 million.
The five-bedroom, 5.5-bath residence features a grand great room; the central gathering place is flooded with natural light. The living area also boasts a stone fireplace, wide-plank wood flooring, a soaring 18-foot ceiling, and multiple sets of French doors that open generously to a screened porch.
The home’s raw timber gives it a decidedly relaxed feel, and accent windows add to the home’s nearly storybook living style. Highlights of the common areas include the solarium-style dining room and the gourmet kitchen; the latter is dressed in neutral tones and accented with an island and a breakfast bar with seating.
The property features a 5-acre private lake complete with a dock for fishing, boating, and swimming, as well as a private guesthouse for visitors. The grounds feature a spectacular stone footbridge, forest, and rolling lawns.
