Spelling Manor is back in the real-estate news, with another price reduction. The home that T.V. producer Aaron Spelling built in the late 1980’s as an archetypal Los Angeles mansion—demolishing Bing Crosby’s 15,000 square foot, George Kaufmann-designed beauty in the process—was first listed by present owner Petra Ecclestone in 2016 with an ask of $200 million. A couple of cuts have left the property with a current listing price of $160 million.

As an investment opportunity, the property presents potential buyers with an ideally situated and very rare spread. As a living space, its 120-odd rooms in 55,000 square feet makes for a superlative living style. The home was, after all, built to be a wildly grandiose personal statement.

From either perspective, the home is astonishing. A full floor of one wing is dedicated to a walk-in closet. The 14-bed, 27-bath home contains a barbershop, a beauty salon, a night club, a two-lane bowling alley, and a large screening room. The grounds contain an orchard, a summer kitchen and bar, a tennis court, and a baroque garden.

Remarkable? Yes. Still, it’ll take a buyer with an appreciation for the lifestyle to see this intensely substantial property off into the Holmby Hills sunset.
