Land Rover‘s newest limited-edition Range Rover may be reinventing exclusivity with its Astronaut Edition SUV. Only Virgin Galactic customers who have actually traveled to space via the SpaceShipTwo will be eligible to purchase the unique model.
Roughly 600 members of the corps of Future Astronauts will be able to remember (and advertise) their space travel experience with the new themed Range Rover. Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations division took on the project, revising an Autobiography Edition by spicing up the newest Range Rover’s style with a slick, two-tone finish and special upholstery cosmetics.
The SUV’s exterior is coated in Zero Gravity Blue paint accented with aluminum door handles and plenty of Astronaut Edition badges. The edition-specific accents continue inside with nods to the SpaceShipTwo logo on the headrests and several other space travel-inspired accents.
Virgin Galactic customers paid at least $250,000 per ticket to ride SpaceShipTwo, making the $144,295 sticker price pocket change. Of course, the Range Rover model is limited to terrestrial travel for the time being. But the limited-edition ride should sustain memories of gravity-free travel.
