The 2020 GT will see the first significant updates to the Mercedes-AMG since the model was introduced at the Paris Auto Show in the fall of 2014. And they’re bringing out a new model as well—the GT R Pro. But more on that in a moment.

Mercedes took to the L.A. Auto Show to promote the refreshed flagship sports model line. Tops on the list of new features is ‘AMG Dynamics’. The driver’s assistance system addition to the GT’s pre-existing mode array is controlled by a selector in the center console, and brings one of four settings to bear on driver dynamics—Master, Pro, Advanced, and Basic—with each juggling a host of operational essentials that enhance and smooth the experience. Before you imagine jumping right into the Master setting, though, you should know it’s only linked to the Race mode on the GT C and GT R.

No changes were necessary—or, indeed, feasible—for the 2020 GT lineup engines. The baseline GT’s 4L V8 and seven-speed dual-clutch can pump out 469 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque; the GT R’s numbers with the same setup are boosted to 577 and 516.

The GT 4-door’s console carries over to the series generally for 2020, and a 10.3-inch screen and 12.3-inch instrument layout handles essential info.

And the GT R Pro? We’ll have to take a closer look at that next time, because it deserves a rundown all its own. Suffice it to say that it sports a new suspension and improved active aero as part of a comprehensive track-oriented feature set.
